NMN is the final phase of the most abundant and efficient NAD+ production path in the body, the salvage pathway. But researchers used to think it couldn’t enter your cells without first turning into NR, then back into NMN once inside the cell. Then, a group of scientists discovered a transporter in the body that takes NMN directly into cells, making it readily bioavailable. From there, your cells easily convert it to NAD+.
As little as 300mg has been shown to increase intracellular NAD+ levels, with a 600mg dose representing a significant jump in NAD+ production consistent with a dose-dependent trend seen across multiple studies. Our formula contains 700mg, relying on that dose-dependent trend to be even more potent while maintaining a safe combined NAD+ booster dose with NR. Our dosing decision involves more than that, though; by including BioPerine, which boosts NMN bioavailability (see below), our dose equals an amount that’s also been shown in human research to improve skin health dramatically.

NR enters cells as readily as NMN, where it’s quickly converted to NMN before fueling NAD+ production. But why bother with NR if it’s just going to become NMN? The answer is two-fold. First, NR can fuel the salvage pathway from a different angle, entering the cell on its own and converting to NMN once there, while NMN uses its dedicated transporter to enter cells and become NAD+. Targeting both aspects of the salvage pathway can increase the efficiency of NAD+ production. Second, NR has exhibited certain effects in studies that NMN hasn't. Providing both of these precursors helps ensure you get the full benefits of either.
Just 100mg of NR can increase NAD+ levels in the blood, with 300mg increasing levels by over 50% in as little as eight weeks. This is the same dose-dependent relationship that we see with NMN — more NAD+ booster results in more NAD+ — and it’s why we push beyond 300mg to provide 400mg of NR per dose. Combined with our 700mg of NMN, this amounts to 1100mg of NAD+ boosters.
Research shows that NR supplementation can:
Boosting NAD+ carries the risk of depleting your methyl donors, which is unhealthy and ultimately counterproductive. That's why we provide TMG (trimethylglycine, also called betaine). TMG acts as a methyl donor within the salvage pathway, providing necessary fuel for nicotinamide to become NAD+. And since nicotinamide is also a byproduct of NAD+ usage, producing more NAD+ with supplemental assistance will drive up your nicotinamide levels, requiring more TMG to recycle that nicotinamide back into NAD+.
That can create a big tax on your TMG stores, depleting your methyl donors and slowing down NAD+ production in the salvage pathway. To offset this, we provide a generous 500mg of TMG to support a healthy NAD+ cycle — no competitor offers more.
Beyond its role in NAD+ production, TMG can provide various additional benefits seen in clinical research, including the ability to:
Spermidine is a polyamine that’s been directly linked to lower mortality. Part of that ability may rest on spermidine’s role in NAD+ metabolism. Boosting NAD+ also leads to an increase in one of its byproducts, nicotinamide (NAM, also called niacinamide), which can enter the salvage pathway itself to contribute more NAD+ in a sustained fashion if not for a substance called nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). NNMT readily methylates NAM out of the salvage pathway, potentially contributing to metabolic issues like heightened cholesterol and lipogenesis.
This is why we include 15mg of spermidine. Like TMG, this dose of spermidine by itself benefits longevity, but it also helps by inhibiting NNMT's methylation of NAM, thereby fueling and optimizing the salvage pathway to reap fuller, sustained benefits from boosting NAD+. Essentially, spermidine and other polyamines can suppress levels of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, allowing more nicotinamide to become NAD+. A 15mg dose appears to be ideal for various potential benefits, with higher doses failing to yield significant increases in blood concentration.

This branded version of black pepper fruit extract has been shown to improve the absorption and bioavailability of numerous supplement ingredients, including an NMN study that found BioPerine could increase peak NAD+ levels and the amount of time those levels stayed elevated. Peak levels were about 15% higher in the black pepper group, meaning that you can expect NAD+ Support to provide a 15% stronger boost in NAD+ from its NMN content than you could in an identical supplement that left out the BioPerine. In the presence of BioPerine, our 700mg NMN dose functions more like an 805mg dose would without it. Researchers have yet to put such a definitive number on how BioPerine could improve NR bioavailability, but its track record suggests that it could only increase NR’s impact.

What is NAD+
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme that supports mitochondrial health in our body's cells. Like other coenzymes, NAD+ can be derived from vitamins (in this case, synthesized from vitamin B3). Healthy NAD+ levels help fuel mitochondria, enabling optimal cell performance and waste removal. NAD+ provides crucial assistance to enzymatic processes that enable DNA repair and gene expression. Its fundamental role in cellular health means NAD+ affects every body system and is fundamentally involved in neuroplasticity and defense against neurodegenerative disease; aerobic capacity and exercise endurance; arterial health; repair of sun-damaged skin; stress response; and much more.
How did Innerbody Labs choose the ingredients in NAD+ Support?
Our formulation is firmly rooted in scientific research to date. Over the past half-decade, we've spent thousands of hours analyzing research studies — human, animal, and in vitro — to identify the most reliably safe and effective methods of boosting NAD+ in the body. We also consulted with doctors, nutritionists, and formulation specialists during our research to benefit from varied expertise on the subject. At the same time, we spent many hundreds of hours assessing NAD+ supplements that aim to improve cellular health and longevity. The goal of all this was to offer the best advice and product recommendations to consumers, based on available products at the time. But too often, we saw NAD+ boosters using supplement forms or dosing that lacked scientific evidence as to their effectiveness or safety. Many companies choose one precursor or the other in an unnecessarily small dose, while others rely on exciting and promising forms, delivery methods, or added ingredients that have simply not been studied rigorously in humans. While those approaches may have merit, there is a real lack of scientific data to help you understand their safety and effectiveness at this time.
We think you deserve more reliability as you endeavor to extend your healthspan, so we adhere to the highest standards when choosing our ingredients as well as their form and dosage. Because we are guided purely by what human studies show to be effective for various anti-aging goals, we include both NMN and NR in our supplement while avoiding NAD+ as an ingredient. (There is currently little scientifically supported rationale for supplementing directly with NAD+; it’s not bioavailable enough.) Because human studies to date have almost entirely used capsules, so do we. And our research extends further to supporting ingredients that can amplify the effects of our NAD+ precursor supplementation. Our dedication to following the scientific data means you can be confident that our formula is the most reliably safe and effective on the market.
Why include both NR and NMN?
We include both of these NAD+ precursors for the same reason that we exclude NAD+ itself as an ingredient; our formula is based on what human studies show to be effective and safe for increasing NAD+ levels in the body. Supplementing with NAD+ precursors is much more effective than supplementing with NAD+ itself. At the same time, while supplemental NMN and NR both boost NAD+ levels, the most compelling research to date has not shown that their effects on human health are identical from supplementation.
For example, human studies of NR have demonstrated its neuroprotective properties in a way that human studies using NMN have yet to replicate. Meanwhile, NMN has been shown to increase aerobic capacity, improve sleep, and fend off harmful DNA damage to skin, and there haven't been human studies of NR that show these effects. With several more years of clinical research, it's possible that this picture looks different, but until then — and because of the complexities of bioavailability and how these precursors enter into the main salvage pathway to produce NAD+ — we conclude that it's most reliable to provide both to you.
How long until I notice effects?
Many people notice positive effects on energy levels, vitality, and even cognitive sharpness immediately after their first several doses of NAD+ Support. But as the intent of this supplement is to improve your healthspan over time, the full effects of improving your mitochondrial health play out over a longer period. You will likely notice effects like improved physical endurance, better sleep, and improved blood pressure after several weeks or months of use. Continued use over months and years supports improved cellular metabolism and DNA repair that can help protect body systems from age-related disease.

Should I cycle NAD+ Support?
No, there is no evidence to suggest that cycling NAD+ Support would be useful or that continued use would be unsafe or counterproductive. Unlike supplements that provide only NAD+ precursors, our formula protects against methyl donor depletion and the risk of accumulating unhelpful derivatives that could otherwise elevate cholesterol and be detrimental to your health. NAD+ Support is designed for beneficial long-term use.
Should I store NAD+ Support in the fridge?
Storing your NAD+ Support in the refrigerator is advisable if storing for months at a time, if humidity is significant, or if temperatures otherwise wouldn't remain stably below 76 degrees Fahrenheit. If in doubt, the refrigerator is a safe choice for storage. But if you are using the supplement as suggested over the course of a month and live in a place where the storing temperature will not rise higher than 76 degrees, then refrigeration isn't necessary.
When should I take NAD+?
We recommend taking NAD+ Support each day in the morning.
Do I need to take it with food?
You can take this supplement with or without food. Water is all that's required.
Can I take a partial serving?
We formulated NAD+ Support to align with human studies that indicate it will offer the greatest reliability and the widest array of benefits tied to longevity, so we recommend the full suggested dose. However, taking a partial serving will not be harmful in any way and should still be beneficial; human studies indicate that NMN and NR boost NAD+ levels in a dose-dependent way, with larger doses promoting a larger boost in NAD+. Lower doses boost NAD+ to a lesser degree. Some human studies show positive benefits from what amounts to a third or two-thirds of our suggested dose.
